Join Project South Co-Director Steph Guilloud and the organization’s New York friends for a house party fundraiser at my Brooklyn home (and Annie Ellman's) as we celebrate Project South's 3 Decades of Movement History on July 30th 5-7 pm.
I am relatively new to New York, but I have known Project South’s work since the 1980s and there is no organization I respect more for its values, integrity, and the courage and vision of its organizing. In an election year when so much is at stake, it is so important for our solidarity to extend across regions as we work together to understand how to contend with regressive and escalating global and national forces. Project South staff and supporters will share the “what” and the “why” around their Southern regional organizing, as well as open up discussion about the common conditions we face and ways that we can support southern front lines in our common struggles.
We’ll have cold drinks and good food and conversation and maybe even a kiddie pool in the garden to wade in (depending on the late-July heat) at 281 14th Street, Brooklyn (11215). There’s a free concert at 730 pm as part of Celebrate Brooklyn in Prospect Park, in which Digable Plants and Camp Lo, "New York hip hoop staples, unite for a night of old ad new sounds." The concert is five or six blocks away from the house party, if you want to make it an evening in this neighborhood. http://www.bricartsmedia.org/events-performances/bric-celebrate-brooklyn-festival.
